The purpose of this study is to investigate experimentally combustion characteristics and theoretical analysis of energetic and exergetic efficiency of a DI diesel engine using by diesel-biodiesel fuel blend. In this work, engine tests were conducted at full opening gas throttle and engine load using a 100 % euro diesel, 100% pure biodiesel and 80 % euro diesel20%biodiesel to blended by volume of the test fuels which were donated as D100, B100 and B20, respectively. All test fuels have been used to perform the diesel engine at various engine speeds which increased from 1000 to 3000 rpm with an interval of 200 rpm. The engine combustion, performance, energy and exergy calculations are evaluated to assess in terms of the maximum brake torque and power values which were obtained at 1400 and 2800 rpm engine speed, respectively. The experimental results revealed the combustion characteristics of diesel engine such as the maximum pressure and heat release rate values remarkably affected by fuel types. Furthermore, fuel type and engine speed substantially influenced on the result of engine energy and exergy analyses. The maximum thermal efficiency results were revealed by energy analysis of D100, B100 and B20 test fuels which were calculated 31.93%, 31.92% and 31.73% at 1400 rpm engine speed, while the maximum exergy efficiencies were observed for fuels 29.78%, 29.72% and 29.53%, respectively.
